Nonlinear integral coupling for synchronization in networks of nonlinear systems

This paper presents a novel approach to (controlled) synchronization of networked nonlinear systems. For classes identical single-input–single-output systems and networks, including oscillator we propose systematic design procedure (with generic as well constructive conditions) for specifying coupling functions that guarantee global asymptotic the systems’ (oscillatory) states. The proposed laws are in form definite integral “coupling gain” function. It can be fit system’s nonlinearities and, thus, avoid cancelling by feedback or high-gain arguments commonly needed linear (diffusive) laws. As demonstrated two examples, network FitzHugh–Nagumo oscillators, this result much lower synchronizing gains than common case couplings, therewith increasing energy efficiency reducing output-noise sensitivity. resulting structure varying type, when couplings activated/deactivated depending on outputs without undermining overall synchronization. is based notion incremental passivity with gain.
